You can collaborate on designs within Motiff files and maintain a design system based on them.
Motiff allows you to create, organize, and manage your files efficiently, ensuring a smooth and productive workflow.
Anyone can create files in Drafts. Drafts are private by default, only invited collaborators can access these files.
Click Drafts in the workspace sidebar, then click New File to create a draft.
Note: Files cannot be grouped in drafts. You can create a project under a team and group files if you need this feature.
If you have Can edit permissions for a team or a project within a team, you can create files within the team.
To create a file in a team, you need to select a project under the team, then click New File.
By default, Motiff names newly created files Untitled. You can rename files in the workspace or within a file.
Rename in the workspace: Right-click on the file and select Rename from the menu.
Rename in files: Click on a blank area of the canvas to deselect any layers, then click the file name in the toolbar to edit it. Then press Enter or click anywhere else to save.
Note: In Motiff, the location where a file copy is created depends on the file's location and the user's permissions for the project:
The copied file will not include the original file's permissions, comments, version history, or library connections.
You can create copies in the workspace and within files.
Create a copy in the workspace: Right-click the file in the workspace, select Duplicate from the menu, and a copy with the suffix -copy will be created.
Tip: If you want to create copies of multiple files at the same time, you can select multiple files and then create copies in the following ways:
Create a copy within a file: Click on a blank canvas area to deselect layers, then click next to the file name in the toolbar and select Duplicate from the menu.
In Motiff, once a file is deleted, it will be removed from all collaborators.
After deleting a file, you can view, restore, and permanently delete the file in the 'Recycle Bin' at the bottom of the sidebar.
If you have Can edit or higher permissions for the file and its project, you can delete the file from the workspace or within the file itself.
Delete from workspace: You can either right-click the file and select Delete, or drag it to the Trash at the bottom of the sidebar.
If you want to delete multiple files at the same time, you can select multiple files and then delete them in the following ways:
Delete within a file: Click on a blank canvas area to deselect layers, then click the down arrow next to the file name in the toolbar and select Delete.
Note: Files can be permanently deleted by users with Can edit permissions for the file and its original project. To do this, go to the Trash in the sidebar, right-click the file, and select Permanently delete.
According to Motiff's data deletion standards and legal requirements, Motiff may temporarily retain data after a file is permanently deleted.
People with Can edit permissions for the file and its project can restore the file. Restoring the file will retain the original file's permissions, comments, version history, and library connections.
Note: If the original project no longer exists, the file will be restored to your drafts, but other collaborators will no longer be able to see the file.
Motiff allows you to move files between drafts, projects, and teams. Moving files may change access permissions depending on the target location.
To move a file, ensure you have the appropriate permissions:
There are two ways to move files in the workspace:
Right-click on the file to open the file menu, select Move…, and choose the target project in the popup to complete the move.
Drag and drop the selected file onto the target project in the sidebar.
Tip: When dragging and dropping files, you need to pin the target project to the sidebar first. Click next to the project name to pin it.
Tip: If you want to move multiple files at the same time, you can select multiple files in the following ways before moving:
To move a file in Motiff, click on a blank canvas area to deselect layers, then click the next to the file name in the toolbar, select Move..., and choose the target project in the popup.
Tip: Motiff does not support the direct transfer of draft files. If you need to transfer a draft to someone else, you can move the draft file to a team and then transfer it.
Tip: Ownership can only be transferred to members already part of the file. If the person you want to transfer to is not yet a member, invite them to join the file first. Learn more about how to invite members to files.
